Criar Contentores / Create Storage Jars

Em Janeiro comprei estes contentores em saldo, para arrumar o açúcar, café e chá na cozinha.

Queria no entanto mais alguns para arrumar outras coisas, mas não havia da mesma colecção ou eram mais caros. Solução: fazê-los!

Back in January I bought these storage jars on sale.

However, I wanted to get some more to store other things, but they weren't from the same collection or were more expensive. Solution: make them!

Um frasco sem tampa transformou-se em contentor para os utensílios que já quase não cabiam na gaveta!

Para condizer com os outros contentores que comprei, fiz-lhe apenas uma "manga" muito simples, com um tecido que estampei a dizer "Utensilios", em inglês para condizer com os outros.

A jar without the lid turned into storage for the utensils that almost didn't fit in the drawer anymore!

To match the other containers that I bought, I made just a very simple sleeve.

Para guardar o esparguete, usei uma embalagem de batatas Pringles que veio disfarçada pelo correio. Depois de forrei com restos de papel embrulho que sobraram do Natal, rematei com uma fita, e também fiz uma "manga" com a respectiva etiqueta.

To store the pasta, I used a Pringles box that came disguised by mail. After lining it with wrapping paper leftovers from Christmas, I finished it with a ribbon, and also made a "sleeve" with its label.

Reciclar comida / Recycle food

Começo por dizer que acho quase um crime deitar comer fora. Sinto-me mal quando tenho de deitar comer fora e apenas deito se estiver estragado.

Quando tenho alguma comida a passar do prazo ou que vejo que se está a estragar, invento algo para fazer com esses ingredientes ou procuro receitas na internet.

Foi o caso da refeição seguinte ao sushi. Como não utilizei todos os ingredientes que tinha cortado para os sushis (salmão, cenoura, pepino, kiwi, morango, abacate), cortei-os todos aos bocados, juntei uma cebola, uma lata de atum, cogumelos e arrisquei saltear tudo no wok com um pouco de azeite e molho worcester. Resultado? Uma combinação óptima e diferente.

Para sobremesa, havia kiwis e pêras a estragar-se. Saiu um bolo:

Let me begin by saying that I think it's almost a crime to throw out food. I feel bad when I have to throw out food and just do it if it's spoiled.
When I have some food passing the expiry date or see what is getting spoiled, I think of something to do with these ingredients or search for recipes on the internet.

This happened in the meal after the sushi. As I hadn't use all the ingredients that I had cut for making the sushis (salmon, carrots, cucumber, kiwi, strawberry, avocado), I cut them all to little bits, added an onion, a can of tuna, mushrooms and and risked sauté everything in the wok with a little olive oil and worcester sauce. The result? A great and different combination.

For dessert, there were some pears and kiwis going bad. They became a cake:

Ingredientes:

* 200g de farinha com fermento

* 150g de açúcar

* 3 ovos

* 50ml de óleo

* 2 kiwis aos bocados

* 2 pêras aos bocados

* 1 chávena de muesli

Preparação:

* Pré-aquecer o forno a 180ºC.

* Num recipiente, colocar a farinha, o açúcar, os ovos e o óleo e misturar muito bem.

* Acrescentar os kiwis e as pêras, previamente descascadas e cortadas, e o muesli, envolvendo com a massa.
* Colocar a massa numa forma à escolha, untada.

* Levar ao forno até cozer (testar com um palito).

* Deixar arrefecer um pouco antes de retirar da forma.

P.S.: Ficou um bocadinho "bonzeado", mas foi a desculpa perfeita para mostrar também os granny squares que já fiz.

Ingredients:
* 200g self-raising flour

* 150g of sugar

* 3 eggs

* 50ml of oil

* 2 kiwis into pieces

* 2 pears into pieces

* 1 cup of muesli

Preparation:

* Preheat oven to 180ºC.

* In a bowl, place flour, sugar, eggs and oil and mix well.

* Add the pears and kiwi fruit, peeled and cut in advance, and muesli, and mix with the dough.
* Place the dough in your baking pan, previously greased.

* Bake until cooked (test with a toothpick).

* Allow to cool slightly before removing it from the pan.

PS: It turned out a bit "tanned", but it was the perfect excuse to also show the granny squares that I already done.

Sushi

A minha comida favorita é definitivamente sushi. Às vezes acho que podia comer todos os dias!
Depois de 6 meses sem comer sushi, tive de fazer:

Depois de reunir os ingredientes todos, eis que tivemos um belo manjar de sushi de deu para dois dias!
Gosto muito de fazer sushi, mas demora tanto tempo que são poucas as vezes que faço em casa.
Se valeu a pena? Sushi vale sempre a pena.

Achados / Findings

Em Portugal não temos disto, mas em Inglaterra há lojas de caridade em todo o lado! E o que são lojas de caridade? São lojas de instituições de solidariedade, onde trabalham voluntários, que vendem coisas em segunda mão, doadas pelas pessoas. Estas lojas são lojas de rua comuns, localizadas nos mesmos sitios das lojas de marcas conhecidas, e vendem um pouco de tudo - desde roupas, livros e loiças, até móveis!

A primeira vez que ouvi falar deste tipo de lojas foi através do blog Saídos da Concha e agora que também estou em Inglaterra, adoro visitar estas lojas.

Esta semana encontrei foram estes os meus achados:

In Portugal we don't have these, but in England there are charity shops everywhere! And what are charity shops? They are shops from solidary institutions, where people volunteer to work, that sell second hand items, donated by people. These shops are commun shops, located in the same places as well known brand shops, and they sell a little bit of everything - cloths, books, crockery, and even furniture!

The first time I heard about these type of shops was in Saídos da Concha blog, and now that I am in England too, I love to visit these shops.

This week I found these:

Um desses copinhos chamou-me à atenção, e qual não foi o meu espanto quando percebi que o preço de £1.50 era não um, mas sim o conjunto dos quatro copinhos!

Os naprons nunca me passam despercebidos e quando estão baratinhos também aproveito para trazer. Com a quantidade de tutoriais na internet que os usam, tenho sempre destino para lhes dar.

One of these little glasses caught my attention, and I had a pleasant surprise when I found that the price of £1.50 was not for one, but the whole set of four glasses!

The doilies never go unnoticed and when they are cheap I also take the opportunity to bring them home. With the amount of tutorials on the internet who use them, I always plans for them.

Protector de Livro / Book Protector

Sabem quando temos um projecto em mente, sabemos o que queremos e como queremos fazer, mas parece que há sempre algo que corre mal? Que não está destinado a acontecer?
Esta semana que passou tive um caso desses...
Queria fazer uma surpresa ao Pedro, que me pediu uma capa para proteger o livro que leva para o trabalho, mais uma vez com os tecidos que me trouxe. '-Fácil!', pensei para mim.
Comecei então a fazer do género destes e correu lindamente, até à altura de experimentar no livro e constatar que estava pequeno demais, talvez devido mais uma vez à grossura dos tecidos... Frustrada com aquilo, decidi pôr de lado.
No dia seguinte lembrei-me! Em vez de começar tudo de novo, porque não aproveitar os tecidos e fazer antes um saco para levar o livro na mala, como estes?
Recomecei então a desmanchar a capa para aproveitar os tecidos e fazer o saco. Cosi o interior, o exterior... e depois apercebi-me que tinha cosido mal!! Decididamente este projecto não queria ser concluído. Como já era tarde, deixei-o novamente de lado.
Virei-me então para outro projecto, que ainda não sei bem o que vai ser, e fiz uns granny squares:

You know when you have a project in mind, you know what you want and how you want to do it, but it seems that there is always something that goes wrong? That is not meant to be?
This past week I had a case like that...
I wanted to make a surprise to Pedro, who asked me for a cover to protect the book he always takes to work, once again using the fabrics that he brought me. '-Easy!', I thought to myself.
I then began doing something like this and ran beautifully, until the time to tried it and found it was too small for the book, perhaps due again to the thickness of the fabrics... Frustrated with it, I decided to put it aside.
The day after I remembered! Instead of starting all over again, why not take advantage of the fabrics and do a bag instead to carry the book in the bag, like these?
I started unstitching the cover to take advantage of the fabric and make the bag. I sewed the inside, the outside ... and then I realized it was sewn wrong!! Definitely this project didn't want to be completed. As it was late, I left it aside again.
Then I turned to another project, still not sure what it will be, and made ​​some granny squares:

Ao outro dia decidi que aquilo não ia ser mais teimoso do que eu; toca de desmanchar tudo de novo, coser novamente - com atenção para coser do lado certo - e voilá! Um saco personalizado para proteger o livro:

The next day I decided it was not going to be more stubborn than I am; started unstitching all over again, sewing again - with attention to sew on the right side - and voilá! A personalized bag to protect the book:

Aproveitei restos de tecidos e fiz um patchwork que me agradou bastante, com cores masculinas. Por dentro coloquei um resto de uma manta vintage, que já guardo há algum tempo para um projecto especial. E o melhor é que ainda sobrou um pouco - resta pensar noutra coisa para oferecer ao Pedro e poder usá-lo!

I took some fabric remains and did a patchwork that made me very pleased, with masculine colours. For the inside I used a vintage blanket, that I was holding on to for quite some time, waiting for a special project. And the best is that is still a bit left - I just have to think of something else to give to Pedro to use it!
